Targets harmful oral bacteria using their own biology.

The bacteria most associated with periodontal conditions (P. gingivalis) produce internal pigments called porphyrins as part of their normal metabolism. When blue light reaches them, those pigments absorb the energy and convert it into reactive oxygen species that damage the bacterial cell from the inside out.

Selective action. Beneficial bacteria in your oral microbiome do not contain these pigments at the same concentration. Published research shows blue light reduces harmful species while leaving healthy gum tissue cells unharmed at equivalent doses.

Not an antibiotic. Because the mechanism works through the bacteria's own pigments rather than a drug pathway, published studies have not observed resistance development with repeated exposure.
