What is neuropathic pain?

Neuropathy is a condition that affects the nerves in the body. Similar to how wires transmit information between devices, nerves are responsible for transmitting important messages like movement, sensation, and coordination between different parts in our body.

When these wires are damaged, information flow is disrupted and in our body, this can lead to a range of symptoms, such as pain, numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness. Most patients experience these symptoms in different body parts at the same time, usually in their feet and legs.

What causes neuropathic pain?

Neuropathic pain can have various causes. Among the most common ones are diabetes, infections, or autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.

We know it can feel overwhelming to navigate through the complexities of managing neuropathy. The constant pain, numbness and/ or discomfort disrupts our daily life and often forces us to give up our most cherished hobbies and activities.

Peripheral neuropathy treatments

In hospitals, doctors typically treat neuropathic pain through the prescription of medications like antidepressants, prescribe physical therapy and suggestions of lifestyle modifications. However, none of these treatments is perfect.

  • Antidepressants help reduce pain signals in the nerves, but unfortunately this is only temporary and you will have to take this medication while praying that the pain will relieve itself.

  • Physical therapy requires a big commitment in both money and time.

  • Lifestyle modifications are only as effective as you are disciplined. Unfortunately, especially when we experience pain, we choose comfort over long-term benefits.

Treatment for neuropathy in legs and feet home remedies

To treat neuropathy at home, these are the most common treatments for neuropathy pain relief:

  • Foot Massages: Massages help improve circulation and relax muscles, which often helps to reduce neuropathic pain as well.

  • Stretching & exercises: Exercising improves blood flow, and stretching improves flexibility, both of which can help reduce neuropathic pain.

  • Relaxation techniques: Deep breathing, mediation or progressive muscle relaxation can help relax the body and alleviate muscle tension.

Red light therapy for neuropathy

The great news is, just recently a new form of treatment for neuropathy emerged and it has experienced a massive hype in the last 6  months!

Red light therapy has been used in beauty clinics for many years already. By sending energy-dense red light photons to our cells to provide cellular energy, skin cells are able to heal and grow faster. To learn more about how red light therapy works, read our blog "What is red light therapy?"

With it's dual spectrum technology, The Cura ProWave Deep Healing Pad™ has achieved a milestone in red light therapy by making this cellular energy available to cells up to 2'' deep. This allows our cells to speed up natural healing processes beyond the skin, and the technology can now be used for pain relief, reducing inflammation, faster regeneration & more.

More than 30,000 Americans have already used this breakthrough deep healing technology in the last 6 months to relieve their pain. This innovation is currently the best, non-invasive form of back pain relief at home. Want to learn more?

Scientific review of red light therapy for neuropathy

"So the treatment of DPN pain could be directed to improve microcirculation, enhance regeneration of nerve injury and reduce pain. In the present study, we used low level laser therapy to determine its effect on painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN). The results showed significant reduction in the pain." National Library of Medicine, 2015

"LLLT promotes the healing and regeneration of damaged tissues, having both local effects on tissue function and also systemic effects carried throughout the body by the blood and acupuncture meridians." National Library of Medicine, 2023

"This review shows that LLLT is very effective in the control of neuropathic pain." Science Direct, 2016

"This NEUROLASER trial shows promising results concerning the prevention of CIPN with PBM in breast cancer patients. Furthermore, a better QoL was observed when treated with PBM." National Library of Medicine, 2022
